About the CEBS Program

The program was established in 1976 by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. The program’s academic mission is to educate human resource professionals in the administration of health & welfare plans, retirement plans, and compensation programs and also to give professionals a solid understanding of core concepts in finance, economics, and financial planning.

The CEBS designation has been the most highly respected credential in the benefits industry for over three decades.  Nearly 11,000 individuals have earned the designation, and thousands more are actively in pursuit.  Maintaining the relevance of the courses in the CEBS Program has always been a top priority of the program sponsors, the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In recent years, however, unprecedented changes in the benefits industry have redefined the education and career paths of those working in the field. In recognition of this, the CEBS Program recently announced a series of groundbreaking changes that are the most integrated and comprehensive in the history of the Program.  To qualify for the designation candidates can begin by pursuing three specialized designations. The designations are the Group Benefits Associate , Retirement Plan Associate , and the Compensation Management Specialist

The Academic Director of CEBS program is Dr. Jerry S. Rosenbloom, Frederick H. Ecker Professor Emeritus of Insurance and Risk Management.
